Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio

Woodridge (WLSD) is a very diverse school district of less than 2,000 urban, rural and suburban students representing a variety of racial and socio-economic backgrounds from Akron, Cuyahoga Falls, Boston Township, Boston Heights, and Peninsula. The Woodbridge team consisted of 12 administrators, 195 certificated staff members, and 115 non-certificated staff members. Together, we improved our district rating on the local report card from Continuous Improvement for five consecutive years to a rating of Excellent with Distinction.

I. Achieve District Excellence

• Reduced the achievement gap as the result of a directed, district-wide effort
• Served as Chairman of the Six District Educational Compact Executive Committee to coordinate

academic and vocational programs

II. Improve School Relations at the Local, State, and National Level

• Represented Akron Area superintendents as a member of the BASA Legislative Committee

• Elected President of Akron Area School Superintendents’ Association
• Selected as a member of the Ohio School’s Leadership Institute
• Served as a BASA mentor to support new superintendents

• Served as a member of the Northampton Rotary
• Delivered annually a State of Schools Address to the Cuyahoga Falls Chamber of Commerce

III. Maintain Fiscal Stability

  • Successfully passed three levies (two renewals and one for new money)

  • Designed and constructed a new outdoor athletic stadium

  • Designed and planned construction of a new field house paid for by private donations

  • Initiated grant writing activities which resulted in over $400,000 to the district

  • Represented the WLSD in tax abatement negotiations with local industry and the city of Cuyahoga Falls

  • Established a focus for the Woodridge Foundation which resulted in raising funds to support students, school programs and construction of new facilities
